THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DERMAL FILLERS AND ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS
As a Cosmetic Physician and Personal Image Consultant, there’s a career overlap which revolves around a desire to help clients become their most confident self.
In a Personal Image Consultant capacity, I generally help clients with their presentation, fashion and overall appearance.
In the field of Aesthetic Medicine, I practice non-invasive and minutely invasive treatments but Anti-Wrinkle Injections and Dermal Fillers are the most common.
Given the universal popularity of both treatments, it always shocks me that most clients initially don’t know the difference between the two.
I guess that’s why I’m writing this blog!
The reality of life is that as we grow older, there are several internal (structural components) and external changes (facial motions) which can alter our appearance.
The good news is the aforementioned treatments counteract these changes!
So let’s delve a little deeper into what they are, how they work and what they do.
Dermal Filler is an injection of non-permanent Hyaluronic Acid which creates natural looking contours whilst adding volume and definition.
Hyaluronic Acid, or HA for short, is a substance found naturally in every human body which plays an integral role in the hydration and suppleness of skin.
Keeping it simple, as bodies age, they produce less collagen and elastin which impacts upon the ability of skin to repair and form tissue resulting in it appearing thin and dehydrated.
Furthermore, whilst many believe the sole purpose of Dermal Fillers is to enhance facial features like lips and cheeks, they’re also effective for correcting and rejuvenating appearance.
Alternatively, Anti-Wrinkle Injections (also known as muscle relaxants) consist of a purified version of a protein used to smooth wrinkles and prevent new lines.
Regular muscle movements cause fine lines and wrinkles which can be reduced by Anti-Wrinkle Injections which allow the skin to move into a more natural position.
Whilst the longevity of both procedures depends on the specific area being treated, typically Anti-Wrinkle Injections last three to four months whilst Dermal Fillers tend to last slightly longer.
So which treatment do you think would work for you?
Within professional circles, they say that a main consideration for Anti-Wrinkle Injections should be the appearance of static lines.
Basically, if wrinkles are visible even when you have a neutral facial expression, Anti-Wrinkle Injections may be of immense benefit.
Those seeking preventative treatments, which help you retain a youthful appearance and delay or minimise unwanted lines or wrinkles, should also look into Anti-Wrinkle Injections.
However, if you’re seeking to freshen up your appearance, or noticing unwanted hollows of sagging skin due to a loss of volume, Dermal Fillers may be your best way forward.
Now that you’ve got a little insight into both treatments, I’d love to discuss with you the available options and clearly explain the entire process to you.
It’s important to consult with a professional so that any treatments undertaken don’t interfere with (or mask) your unique and beautiful characteristics.
